August 23 – 25, 2013 – Camping Weekends with Horses at Wild Cat Mountain 4:00 PM. A weekend get away for the horse lover who loves to ride but doesn’t own a horse. August 16 – 18, 2013 – BADGER STEAM & GAS ENGINE SHOW – 50th ANNUAL SHOW. Come and enjoy one of the best antique tractor, steam and gas engine shows in the country. Memorabilia display, silent auction, chapter tables, and a gathering place for visitors to mingle throughout the day. Displays and exhibits for the whole family. August 16, 2013 – EXPLORE THE NIGHT SKY – Devil’s Lake State Park 8:15 PM – 10:30 PM. Madison Astronomy Society Join the Madison Astronomy Society (MAS) to learn about the night sky. MAS will have several telescopes set up and show you cool features about the moon, point you towards some winter constellations. This is more of an informal program where you can come anytime and the MAS volunteers will help you get to know the night sky. Meet at the north shore boat launch parking lot. August 17, 2013 – CAR WASH FOR CRITTERS -To Benefit the Sauk County Humane Society 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Our Humane Teen Club members and other wonderful adult volunteers will help wash cars at our Car Wash for Critters event! For only a $5 donation, we will wash and dry your vehicle. Leave with a car that shines and the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping our homeless animals in need! Proceeds go to help the SCHS shelter animals! August 22, 2013 – Lawn Chair Bat Watch - Devil’s Lake State Park 7:45pm. The bats will be waking and heading out for the night and it’s a great time to bring a comfy lawn chair and watch them. We’ll park our chairs outside the Chateau (North Shore) and watch the bats emerge from the houses. We’ll have fun bat information and a bat scavenger hunt for the kids to do while the wait to the bats to emerge. Meet at the Chateau. Meet at the Chateau, Devils Lake State Park, Baraboo.

August 22, 2013 – Wild Creatures Hike – Bugs 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. There are lots of amazing insects everywhere! August 23, 2013 – KAYAK TOUR – Devil’s Lake State Park 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Pre-registration is required. Take a guided kayak tour and find a new way to explore Devil’s Lake! We’ll paddle the lake looking for all sorts of wildlife (birds, fish, mammals) and check out some of the geology and history too. The kayak tours will start at the park’s north shore we’ll spend the first half an hour gathering and learning how to use our kayaks. The tour will take about 90 minutes. There is a limited amount of space, so we ask you to preregister prior to the event. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. Pre-registration is required. August 25, 2013 – NATURE SPIES - Devil’s Lake State Park 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Armed with magnifiers we’ll head out to spy on the animals that live here. We’ll find out what happens when we spy on gray squirrel. We’ll discover what bugs do when they think no one is looking. Meet at the Nature Center. August 26 – 30, 2013 – Mackinac Island Trip - Organized by BASCO. Join members of the Baraboo Senior Center for this 5 day, 4 night trip to Mackinac Island where horse and carriage are the only means of travel. Included is a cruise through the scenic Soo Locks and gaming at the Kewadin Sault Casino. Guided tours take you to quaint Mackinaw City and surrounding lighthouses plus Colonial Michilimackinac, a 1700′s are village which was a starting point for early explorers to Wisconsin. The trip is open to all. Trip leaves at and returns to Baraboo Pierce’s parking lot. Leaves Monday, August 26 at 8:00 am. Returns Friday August 30 at 8:00pm.
